There are two ways of installing themes in a WordPress website. Firstly when you want to install a theme from the wordpress.org library. Secondly when you want to install a theme that you have downloaded from a Premium Theme Shop.
When You Want To Install A Theme From WordPress.org Library
Firstly log in to your WordPress dashboard and hover over to Appearance and click Themes.
Now, click on the Add New button.
Now you can choose from featured themes, popular themes, or the most latest themes after clicking on the Add New button.
You can further search for a specification by clicking on the feature filter and then choosing the Subject such as Blog, E-Commerce, Features such as Sticky Post and Full Width Template, Layouts such as Wide Blocks and Grid Layout.
You’ll get a selection of themes that’ll match your requirements based on your search. We’ll install generatepress theme for eg.
Hover over the image of the theme you wish to install when you see it. After that you can first click on preview to see how the theme will look or click on Install.
WordPress will therefore install your theme and display a button ‘Activate‘. Click on activate to complete the process. You’ve now successfully installed and activated your WordPress theme.
When You Want To Install A Theme That You Have Downloaded From A Premium Theme Shop
Till now we’ve only covered on how you can install the free wordpress themes that’s in wordpress.org library. But what if you want to install a theme that’s not on the wordpress.org library or a premium theme from Themeforest, Elegant themes or Mythemeshop.
In order to install such themes, you first need to download the .zip file from that theme shop.
Hover over to Appearance and select Themes. Then click on Add New.
Since you have the theme you want to install there’s no need to search, click on the upload button.
You will only be able to choose .zip file, now choose the theme you downloaded and click on install now.
You’ll get a confirmation message along with a link to Activate and Preview your theme after it’s been installed.
You’ve now successfully installed and activated your WordPress theme.
